    Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to be a mathematically inclined or gifted person to count cards but you must have some time and patience. First of all, card counting is not illegal in any state or country but casinos have the right to ban card counters from their establishments. Its a proven fact that effective card counting gives an "unfair advantage," as the casinos call it, to the blackjack player thus putting the house in a disadvantageous position because it's a highly specialized skill against which there is practically no known defense.
